Abdolmajid Yolmeh, a student in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at Rutgers University, was named the winner of the 9th Annual Student Contest held by the New Jersey Chapter of INFORMS. Yolmeh was honored for his work on “A Two-Stage Invest-Defend Game: Balancing Strategic and Operational Decisions.” The research was done with Professor Melike Baykal-Gürsoy.

ISE Ph.D. Candidate Ke Sun and Professor James T. Luxhoj received a Best Paper Award from the Systems Engineering and Design Track for their paper entitled "An Optimization-Enhanced Dynamic Approach for Supply Chain Risk Analysis," at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, PA during May 20-23, 2017.

More than 110 Industrial and Systems Engineering alumni, faculty, and friends joined Dean Tom Farris and Chair Mohsen Jafari to celebrate the second annual ISE Alumni Networking Event on May 11, 2017, at Battellos Restaurant in Jersey City. Special thanks to Ms. Binnur Altiok and Stephen and Kerry Bray for allowing us to recognize them and the students that are benefiting from the generous scholarships they established for our department. Congratulations to Marc Block (GSNB’92), recipient of an Outstanding Contribution Award for his efforts in student education and training.

Industrial and Systems Engineering professor James T. Luxhøj was recently celebrated by his alma mater with his induction into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni established by the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. The academy recognizes leaders in the field who have served their profession and society with distinction. Luxhøj, who received his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees from Virginia Tech, was honored at an event in Blacksburg on April 28, 2017.

The School of Engineering’s Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is preparing to bid a bittersweet farewell to a longstanding faculty member who has been with the department from the very beginning. Professor Thomas Boucher joined the ISE faculty upon the department’s inception in 1981. Throughout the past 36 years, he has contributed to the success of the department which is now regularly listed among U.S. News and World Report’s top ranked graduate engineering programs.
