The 2018 senior design project competition challenges senior ISE students to apply everything they've learned as Rutgers engineers to an innovation that addresses a challenge or problem. This year's projects demonstrated the diversity and flexibility of an industrial and systems engineering degree.

Industrial and systems engineering seniors bring all that they’ve learned as undergraduates to the table in a culminating capstone project. The Design of Engineering Systems course begins in the spring semester of junior year where student teams research and select a challenging design problem to pursue. The final projects incorporate building prototypes and developing the technology systems to support the project. Students also present their research to a panel of judges that include industry representatives and faculty.

Each year, at the Annual Conference of the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers, a competition is held for the best technical paper from an Industrial and Systems engineering undergraduate program. The technical paper is typically a report of the accomplishments of the students senior design project, presented by a member of the student team who worked on the project. To be eligible to compete the team must first win the regional competition held at the Regional Annual IISE meeting.

ISE Ph.D. student Zhe Gao has been selected to receive one of the NSF-sponsored Student Travel Awards to attend the ASME MSEC 2018 / NAMRC 46 conference in College Station, Texas from June 18 to June 22, 2018, sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Zhe Gao is a third year Ph.D. student in ISE and his advisor is Prof. Weihong "Grace" Guo.

Two teams made Rutgers history by winning the Hult Prize Regionals Competition for their groundbreaking energy innovations. Known as the Nobel Prize for students, the Hult Prize is the world’s largest engine for innovative startups emerging from college campuses.

The IISE Rutgers University Chapter #841 received the GOLD AWARD from IISE Headquarters in recognition of the chapter’s improvements, progress and overall achievements for the Academic Year 2017-2018. Ms. Lana Sharp served as the IISE President during this time. This is the 12th consecutive year that the Rutgers chapter received the Gold Award. IISE Fellow and Professor James T. Luxhøj serves as the IISE Faculty Advisor. Congratulations to Lana and her leadership team!
